Nexium 24HR (esomeprazole) is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) which works by reducing the production of stomach acid. It is used to treat frequent heartburn and gastro-oesophageal reflux.
Read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist before you start taking Nexium 24HR and if you are taking other proton pump inhibitors (e.g. lansoprazole, pantoprazole, esomeprazole). If you have any concerns, please consult your doctor or pharmacist.
The most common side effects are abdominal pain, diarrhea, loose stools, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and flatulence. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor immediately.
Do not take Nexium 24HR if you are allergic to esomeprazole or pantoprazole ( pantoprazole is a type of acid blocker) or lansoprazole ( Lansoprazole is a type of acid blocker) or if you are taking any of the other proton pump inhibitors.
Do not take Nexium 24HR if you have an allergic reaction (hives, difficulty breathing) to aspirin, diclofenac, ibuprofen, naproxen, or any other NSAIDs, if you have history of peptic ulcers, or heart attack.
